Black Girl Futures (BGF) is designed to provide teaching, learning, and mentoring experiences in the areas of leadership, critical thinking, professional development, self-care, and self-love for Black girls, ages 13 to 18.
BGF aims to center the resilience, creativity, and humanity of Black girls through teaching, mentoring, and learning. BGF programmatic themes are centered in different aspects of Black girlhood:
Black girls’ relationship to knowledge production;
Black girls’ ways of knowing and experiences with schooling;
Black girls dreams for the present and future; and the ways Black girls make meaning for themselves against the archival grain.
Through its programmatic thrust, BGF aims to center Black girls as key stakeholders, allowing them to voice their own issues and provide key insights on their wants and needs, and potential.
